History of beer

One of the greatest human adventures!

Did you know that the story of beer and the story of mankind are intimately entwined?

Oh, the stories our favourite beverage could tell! How long have humans been brewing beer? How did brewing affect agricultural development? What technologies were invented or passed down for the production of beer? How did the flavour of beer evolve through the ages?

These are some of the questions Stéphane Morin, historian and brew master, intends to answer in an unassuming column in which he will travel through 12,000 years of history. His columns will show that over and above being a simple gustatory delight, beer is focal point of some of man’s greatest adventures!

History and beer – two complementary passions

Stéphane Morin is renowned as a skilled, passionate and enthusiastic advocate of beer. This passion drove him to travel the world to taste and analyze beers. He developed his unique expertise over 25 years. This led him to write his Master’s Thesis in history on the evolution and industrialization of breweries. His life is devoted to beer; designing beer events, editing his own magazine (Effervescence), introducing new beer-food pairings, conducting many conferences, hosting a radio show and writing the beer column in TV Hebdo magazine. A graduate in History and Wine Waiting, he has also been featured in many TV broadcasts.

As a teacher of the art and pleasure of beer, he is particularly interested in educating the public on flavour. He even uses beer as an educational resource! He is a member of the Cheese Evaluation Expert Consultation Group, member of the Board of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS) and Curator of the Lachine Beer Museum.
